In the early 2000’s, the Village Artisan team became more aware of sex and labour trafficking in the region.
Poverty, large families, and lack of education have made the women in our area particularly vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking. By providing dignified fair trade work for young women, they are protected against the evils of traffickers. Empowered, our women now laugh at the lure of traffickers as they feel proud and responsible for their work with VA and can now provide for their families. There is no temptation or desperation to lead them to the fake promises of “glamorous jobs” in the big city. The women themselves in turn bring awareness to their communities, as leaders in VA they employ their neighbours and prevent many from landing in the clutches of the sex and labour traffic industry. We are so pleased to have been involved in this kind of prevention now for over 20 years. Currently, as a next step in combatting human trafficking Village Artisan is in the throws of setting upa new safe space to provide skill training and fair trade work for women being rescued from exploitation and abuse. We look forward to sharing the courageous stories of Survivors walking out their restoration story. Truly, together we can write a global story of change.
“Village Artisan has been blessed with some of the richest relationships this side of heaven from around the world since 1998."
"We know that it has taken a global village of contributors to make this dream of helping people find freedom and working for a brighter future come true.
Through the years, we have been a mosaic of nationalities, giftings, personalities and people with struggles who collectively have experienced victories.
What grace and perseverance we have all walked in! We couldn’t be more grateful for where we have come from and we are excited about where we are going. There is always more to do in the fight against poverty and injustice.
If you have a heart for people, our planet, beauty, truth, and freedom, come join the adventure! We’d love to have you be a part of our village.”
